The Habitat Women participants received valuable on-the-job training by building a timber pergola at Glebe House. Materials for the build were generously funded through support from Barclays Capital.
The pergola was completed over a period of 4 weeks (2 days per week) and valuable skills were learnt by the female cohort.
“My experience with the pergola build was amazing! I enjoyed every moment of it. Then, seeing the end result was very satisfying. I’m very grateful to be a part of the cohort”, said one of the women.
Glebe House is a therapeutic community and rehabilitation center that helps men transition to a life free from addiction. The residents now have an inviting space to gather together under cover.
The cohort will be in the workshop for the next month building garden beds to be sold, contributing to the social enterprise element of Habitat Women.
A second pergola will be built, this time for Wesley Mission in early 2023. This will provide an outdoor space to addicts and homeless people in recovery, and will provide more vital on-site experience to the women.
